Redeeming Your Air Miles on E-auction or Group Buy at Safeway

BE SURE TO CHECK THE DATE OF THE COUPON/POST - Old posts are NOT removed as they must remain in-order for you to find this site and the most recent deals.

As mentioned in the last few posts Safeway and Air Miles have teamed up with their E-Auction and Group-Buy promotion. These promotions are fun to participate in and a great way to use your air miles. However, one thing that must NOT be overlooked is the price you're paying. You've spent a long time collecting your air miles be sure you're getting a good deal before spending your miles.

Here is a quick breakdown of a few popular stores
Gap Gift Certificate - 220 Air Miles - $25
Rona Gift Certificate - 175 Air Miles - $20
Shell Gift Card - 175 Air Miles - $20
Air Miles to Dollar Ratio = 8.75 for $1.00

Note: This doesn't take into consideration flights which, depending on which flight and when, can be one of the better ways to use your air miles. However, you do have to pay the administration fee and taxes on these flights. From my past research, flights range from $4.5 to $10+.

Now looking at the Group Buy for today which is a NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto Piccolo for 300 airmiles. The Manufacturer's suggested retail price is $99.00. To calculate the Air Miles to Dollar ratio simply divide the number of air miles by the dollar value. ie: 300/$99 = 3.03 Air Miles for $1.00. This shows us that the Group Buy is a great deal! And it is probably safe to assume that most of the group buy's will be good air miles promotions.

The real thing to watch out for is with the E-auctions. You don't want to get into a bidding war and overpay for an item. Of course, without this promotion you will be paying approximately 8 to $1.00 with gift cards so anything less than 8 might be considered a good deal. I will probably try to avoid paying much more than a 4 to $1.00 multiple.

Air Miles Tip: As this promotion is very new the first set of auctions will probably be the cheapest. I assume this as fewer people will have access codes and have bothered to log onto the site! (this is just my personal opinion)
