Westjet Leaving Airmiles Program

BE SURE TO CHECK THE DATE OF THE COUPON/POST - Old posts are NOT removed as they must remain in-order for you to find this site and the most recent deals.

Cheap Flights at westjet.com!
I have some unfortunate news to report. Westjet is leaving the Airmiles program as of January 1st 2009. This has been rumored for quite some time and is actually happening in the new year. The other rumour I've heard is that Westjet will have their own points program. Who knows if that's true but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

This is very unfortunate to all of us airmiles collectors. However, it really shouldn't affect the number of airmiles that I (or you hopefully) collect. I get most (ie: 95%) of my airmiles from Safeway and using the Weeks Best Airmiles Deals. This is the easiest and fastest way to collect airmiles, guaranteed!

It'll be interesting to see how the number the departure of Westjet affects the number of airmiles required to fly to different locations with airmiles. I'll keep everyone updated as soon as I have information. I will also continue to announce the Westjet Seat Sales on this blog. I realize it won't be with regards to the airmiles program, however, I love flying Westjet and supporting a great company. I also think that knowing the best seat sales is in everyone's best interests!

oh noes oh noes oh noes!!! well as long as the number of airmiles required to purchase tickets are still a good deal then i will continue to collect airmiles!

I was really disapointed when I heard this a few months back. I have the BMO Mosaik Air Miles Mastercard which allowed me to get two for one seats on AirMiles with WestJet. Now, we just get 20% off any airline. I emailed them and expressed my displeasure. The response I got was that 20% off was just as good because it is good ith any airline. That’s fine and dandy, but I only fly WestJet! So I will be cancelling the card as my only reason for really having it is gone.

Yeah Amanda, it’s really quite sad. Although, I’m pretty certain that westjet will release some sort of credit card of their own.

oh and I hear you about only flying westjet. šŸ˜‰

Disappointing.
I travel a lot and used to get quite a few miles from West Jet, especially with their promo codes.
With the addition of Shell bonus miles I’ll probably get as many or more but it was sure nice to double dip while it lasted…

So does this mean that one can still redeem existing Airmiles for travel with Westjet? I was under the impression after reading their site that this meant I would no longer accumulate Air Miles when purchasing Westjet tickets online. I didn’t realize it meant Westjet was no longer participating at all in terms of redemption of air miles.

It seems like you would still be able to redeem your Air Miles for flights on Westjet. The official statement:

Dear WestJet Guests & AIR MILES Collectors,

WestJet will be leaving the AIR MILESĀ® Reward Program as a Sponsor at the end of this year. This means that we will no longer be awarding AIR MILESĀ® reward miles for flights booked at westjet.com after December 31, 2008. Until then, you will continue to earn one AIR MILESĀ® reward mile for every $20 you spend on flights booked online at westjet.com.

Please remember, this change does not affect your ability to redeem your AIR MILESĀ® reward miles any time for travel to great WestJet destinations within Canada and the continental U.S. To redeem your AIR MILESĀ® reward miles for travel on WestJet please call 1-888-AIR-MILES.

Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to seeing you onboard.

I saw this coming when WestJet cancelled their
“Fly anywhere for 1600 airmiles” promotion for Masaic credit cards. This was a great deal on longer filghts.
I did the calculations on the new 20% off promotion, and for me it will not generally cover the annual fee charged, so I’ve cancelled my card.

i am now flying Air Canada – as a frequent flyer for work, no way am I doing it for nothing

Hi Patti, I’ve heard of lots of people switching.
