Airmiles Credit Card Changes - Now which card?
Well, since the Mosaic Airmiles Mastercard credit card has been modified there has been a lot of discussion about the change. So far, very little of the discussion has been good, so this begs the question.
What are the other Credit Card options?
There are 4 other options and I've summarized them below
Bronze Mosaic Mastercard Credit Card
- No Fee
- Collect at 1 airmile for every $40 spent
- Double airmiles at National Car Rental
Silver Mosaic Mastercard Credit Card
- $35 annual fee
- Collect at 1 airmile for every $20 spent
- 1.5 reward miles at Shell
- Double airmiles at National Car Rental
American Express Airmiles Credit Card
- No fee Credit Card
- 1 airmile for every $20 spent
- 100 Bonus AIR MILES reward miles
American Express Airmiles Credit Card - With Annual Fee
- Annual Fee of $50
- 1 airmile for every $15 spent
- 250 bonus airmiles after first purchase.
- Apply for the American Express AIR MILES Platinum Credit Card
Personally, I think everyone should simply sign-up for the no-fee american express airmiles credit card because you get 100 airmiles for simply signing up and using the card once! After that you can simply cut the card up.
Selecting a specific airmiles credit card to use is a tougher choice and is a bit of personal preference. I'm a fan of the NO FEE American Express AIR MILES Credit Card - A FAST and EASY way to collect AIR MILES reward miles and you get 1 airmile for every $20 spent!

With AMEX launching their new Blue Sky Card soon I think we may see the AMEX Air Miles card take a hit. The Blue Sky card will have no fee and you can use the points to book travel through any travel provider (just like the TD First Class Infinite, TD Platinum and Capital One No Hassle Rewards cards), a very sensible card in that you don’t have to be tied to one loyalty program. Still 100 Bonus Air Miles is 100 more Air Miles for your account!
I just found your site, and appreciate the work you have put into all this research! We have been Air Miles collectors since the beginning of the program, but although we maintain Gold status, find that we are slow to accumulate miles unless we shop at Safeway. We are now taking advantage of the specials you highlight. Thanks very much!
We do use the free American Express card and are going to ‘upgrade’ for the sake of the current offer of 350 bonus Air Miles. IMHO, one of these is the best card to use at Costco. However, although we know this is a specifically Air Miles (TM) collecting site, we like to travel too, and Air Miles is not the only way to travel free. Other (free or cheap) credit cards are well worth considering. You would do your readers a service to have them look at http://www.rewardscanada.ca for comparison charts of Canadian credit cards. Our favourite is the free Starwood Mastercard, which allows you to transfer Starpoints 1:1 to almost any airline program. The $75 Alaska Airlines Mastercard is a close follow-up, with it’s $50 companion certificate every year.

Applying for a credit card just to get 100 air miles and then cutting it up is a bit ridiculous - if you’re going to take the hit on your credit report for signing up a new card, at least sign up for something that gives you enough points to get halfway towards a flight (like TD travel cards or CIBC’s Aventura). Though they have annual fees, those cards offer intro points that are worth half a flight, while 100 air miles will barely get you off the runway. I’d rather earn 100 air miles in a single bonus coupon at Safeway without the ding of a check on my credit report.
